Summer Fundraising Recap

As the summer comes to a close, the Drew Poet Foundation would like to thank all of our members and volunteers that have helped us get off the ground so quickly. We have been overwhelmed by all of your support and generosity.

First, we'd like to recognize Sam Gordon, younger brother of one of Drew's CC classmates Louis Gordon. Sam worked hard raising money to benefit the foundation with his lemonade stand and bake sale. Many thanks to Sam and his family for helping to spread Drew's message and support our mission!

On July 29th in Plymouth, Michigan, Community Financial Credit Union honored the Foundation with a substantial donation as a part of their Summer of Sharing event. A huge thank you to Kristen Todd of CFCU and to George Marco for submitting Drew’s story! $1,000 was awarded to the Foundation!

On September 7 in Plymouth, Michigan, on the field of the Plymouth Canton Steelers Stadium at Central Middle School, the football organization Drew played for over 7 years retired his #34 jersey during an emotional ceremony near the 50-yard line. Drew’s former teammates and coaches lined up in support. The grandstand was packed and it was apparent to all how much Drew was loved and will be missed. A flag bearing #34 and the words “No Quit” was hoisted behind the field’s north end zone, just under the American Flag. We know Drew would have been incredibly honored to see the amount of support by his former teammates, coaches, and the Plymouth community.

Thank you the entire Plymouth Canton Steelers Organization, especially Ted Barker, with the invaluable assistance of Julie Walkley for making this event so very special. The Steelers continue to support Drew’s Foundation by raising funds at every home game throughout this season and we could not be more grateful.

Many thanks to all who helped make our first summer season a success. Drew's mission of spreading awareness is off to an incredible start in such a short period of time. In addition to the few events above, we have heard from so many of you who are willing to volunteer your time and efforts, and there are many more events in the works. We are looking forward to our next fundraisers in Michigan this fall, and hope to see many of you there!
